Eyelash Extensions
When getting eyelash extensions, you must choose a reputable beauty salon or nail and eyelash studio, and not go for an extremely cheap price. The reasons are as follows:
1. The glue used for eyelash extensions varies greatly in quality and price. Since it's so close to the eyes, it's better to use better glue to minimize irritation.
2. The extensions are attached to your own eyelashes, not your eyelids! Some unscrupulous businesses or lash artists may stick them on your eyelids to extend the wear time, which can easily cause eye allergies. It's really bad.
3. The softer the extensions (also the more expensive), the less foreign body sensation they create on the eyes. In addition, D curl is the curliest, and A curl is the least curly (a lash artist once told me that some guys now even choose A curl lashes, which is a bit sneaky).
4. When going for extensions, you can show your lash artist the picture below, and you'll get sunflower-like lashes.
Advantages:
1. Convenient
After getting extensions, you can have thick lashes without doing anything, making eye makeup much easier.
2. No discomfort
I personally feel no discomfort after getting eyelash extensions, except when I want to rub my eyes and remember, oh right, I have extensions, so I can't.
3. Easier to fake a no-makeup look
Extensions show their advantage when going swimming or removing makeup, since they're somewhat semi-permanent. I remember a female celebrity on a military reality show where everyone had to be completely makeup-free, yet they all definitely had eyelash extensions.
Disadvantages:
1. Can damage your own eyelashes
Extensions may cause discomfort around the eyes, and when they fall off, they can pull out your natural lashes as well. So after all my extensions fall out, I usually wait 1-2 months before getting them done again.
2. Not very curly
Extensions are definitely long, but since they are attached to your own lashes, their weight alone is not enough to make them both long and curly. The lashes I get usually only look good from the side, and it's hard to achieve the "sunflower lash" effect from the front. Moreover, extensions cannot be removed at will, so styles cannot be switched freely.
3. Expensive
Even if you get them every 2 months, the average price in Beijing is around 300 RMB per session, which totals 1800 RMB a year. Not realizing it is one thing, but calculating it is quite shocking.
Magnetic False Eyelashes
Important Notes for Magnetic False Eyelashes (pay attention!):
1. It's best to choose magnetic false eyelashes from well-known brands, as the quality is more reliable and the effect on your eyes is better.
2. Typically, a set of magnetic eyelashes includes 4 lashes and a magnetic "eyelash applicator," with the box labeled "right upper, right lower, left upper, left lower."
3. Place the lashes for the same eye on the applicator according to upper and lower labels. Then, simply clamp them onto your eyelid; it only takes 5 seconds (you need to practice a few times to get familiar with the technique).
4. For the first time, make sure to read the instructions carefully and pay attention to the direction of the lashes. If they are inverted, the upper and lower lashes won’t magnetically attach.
Advantages:
1. Doesn’t damage your natural lashes
The biggest advantage of magnetic eyelashes is the biggest disadvantage of glued lashes—since there’s no glue, it won’t hurt your natural lashes at all. Removing them is as simple as gently pulling them off.
2. Provides lift and variety
Because it has two pieces for each eye (upper and lower), the magnetic force is strong enough to make your lashes perfectly lifted, even slightly poking the eyelid for that dramatic curl! Magnetic lashes come in a variety of styles—dense or natural—so you can change the look based on your preference.
3. Cost-effective
You can use them repeatedly. After each use, just clean them, and they can last for at least six months.
Disadvantages:
1. Requires some practice to find the perfect position
When I first used them, I wasn’t sure about positioning. Sometimes it was too forward, poking the inner eye corner; too backward, it didn’t sit well. So, you need a few practice sessions to find the right spot. However, the operation is very simple: if you can use an eyelash applicator, you can use magnetic lashes. Place the lash on the applicator, and then just clamp it at the lash root.
2. Not ideal in special situations for a no-makeup look
For example, when going to a waterpark or traveling with friends, you can’t wear them all the time.
